That sort of has a nice ring to it. However, it is not the best of experiences to write about. I had a patient this morning who, to make a long story short, was a put out be how long his cleaning was going to take. He was a Class III and showed up about a half hr. late. Then he expects his cleaning to be taken care of in about 20-30 min. K maybe one quad. He just did not realize that I am a student and I am not a pro. (I don't even think a pro could do a thorough job in that amount of time). I called Prof. Hanson over and she took charge of the situation, which I really appreciated because I have never had any one be quite so rude and I just didn't really know what to say, I think I was being too nice. Any way, I felt really belittled and he made me feel like I did not have the slightest clue what I was doing if it was going to take me so long.
It wasn't the funnest, but it helped prepare me for future situations like this. Next time I think I will be able to stand up formyself a little better.
After Prof. Hanson excused him, I was able to get another pt. that was much better. It was a good experience because I could really see the dark like from the sub calculus and was able to get it off. I really think I understand more about ultrasonicing. It really is a good tool, but it can't get it all. It is really important to get back in there with your hand instruments to get the final pieces that are left behind.
Well, anyway, I have a headache and I am ready to go home. I do feel that I learned a lot today, so therefore I will look at this day as successful.
